Why do paid social ads stop working?
Last updated
Creative fatigue is one possible reason, but not the only one. Changes in delivery, competition, tracking, the offer or the website can also affect results. Check the wider campaign before replacing every ad.

What does creative fatigue look like?
An audience may become less responsive after seeing the same message repeatedly. Falling engagement alongside repeated exposure can be a reason to investigate fatigue, but a single metric does not prove it.
Compare a meaningful period with a similar earlier period. Look for a pattern rather than treating one quiet day as a diagnosis. Seasonality, promotions and changes in spend can make periods difficult to compare.
What else should I check?
An ad is only one part of the purchase journey. A broken checkout, missing stock or a changed offer can affect sales even when the creative is still doing its job.
- Check tracking and whether the campaign settings have changed.
- Review delivery, audience exposure and changes in spend.
- Test the landing page and checkout yourself.
- Check stock, delivery information and offer consistency.
How do I refresh an ad without starting again?
Keep the useful learning from the existing concept. Try a different opening, show the product sooner, answer a common objection, or lead with a different benefit. A new edit should give the audience a fresh reason to care rather than just a new colour scheme.
Keep some familiar creative in the comparison where practical. That helps you judge whether the new direction is an improvement rather than simply different.
